The youngest of three siblings, I grew up on a beautiful farm in the far SW of Cornwall. Born into the "golden age" of Cornish art with art graduate parents, painting and painters were always around. So too was the great outdoors, a reference library of art books, plus endless studio space and equipment.  Despite being encouraged to go to Art School myself I wasn't keen at the time and instead meandered off 'doing my own thing'!

Cut to my 60s. Living on a 32' sail boat with my husband, a collie and a cat and with zero room I decided to start painting again! Actually it wasn't a decision but an irresistible force. I can only attribute it to the stimulation of being surrounded by a very different part Cornwall plus finally having the time.

My first paintings were about 4 inches square. Once I had started I couldn't stop and my painting very rapidly outgrew the available space.

I moved to a shared studio with Red, who lives on a grand old trawler opposite our boat. The studio is situated about half a mile away, (tucked behind the trees, just past the bright yellow boat in the photograph) in the wonderfully named "Silly Sods in the Mud" yard. Hence our studio had to be called "Silly Sods Studio". This spring Red moved up to The Garrison studios at Maker, just up the road and for the time being I will be spreading out even further at Silly Sods.
